Justify the preference of the binomial system of naming organisms over the polynomial system?

The genus/species names are unique, and a lot quicker to type or say than the full Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.

When naming a group like, "The Writers Group" do you use an apostrophe?

I have found three different usages defined, "The Writer's Group", "The Writer's Group", and "The Writers' Group". What is correct?

Note, the book, "The Writer's Market" is written just like this, and "Reader's Digest" is also titled in this way. Anyone have the definitive answer backed up with a authorative reference?

When naming a group like, "The Writers Group" do you use an apostrophe?
My dear Ms. Truss would have a field day with this. If it was Writer's Group, it would mean that one writer had a group. If it was Reader's Digest it would be a lot of work to publish a magazine for one reader. It would be Writers' Market and Readers' Digest and Writers' Group - denoting that there is more than one reader or writer. Pax-C
Reply:you miss the point. writer's group could mean 'a group for the average/common writer'. Like reader's digest. it doesn't necessarily mean it is a group belonging to many writers.
Reply:yes you do because its a group that belongs to writers so it is Writers' i sincerley doubt that there is just one writer to whom it belongs.
Reply:Actually, it's a group belonging to more than one writer, so you put the apostrope after the "s"...the writers' group. No authoritative reference, nothing to back this up...just grammatically correct to take a possessive plural and put the apostrophe after the plural.

Naming an Entity and operating under a DBA?

I need to name my entity, an LLC and I was wondering if people often choose obscure names and then operate under DBA's? Advantages?

Naming an Entity and operating under a DBA?
Why did you form an LLC? What kind of business is it? Is there a ton of liability? If not, you just waste your money by forming and paying for an LLC. It seems cool, but it's just a waste of money. Buy some bling instead.

A DBA is generally understood to refer to a sole proprietorship - not any sort of LLC. You sound a little confused. Why would you want to hide the name of the LLC? Would that be misleading to a customer and possibly contribute to you losing the liability protection if the customer was able to "pierce the corporate veil?"

I think it could.

What will you do if they start naming bridges and tunnels and airports after George W Bush?

The republicans have started a new strategy of getting stuff named after their dubious leaders while these guys are still alive and you still remember who they are. so it is not too soon to start thinking about the horrid possibility of being forced to use airports and highway rest stops named after dubya. What should we do to avoid this?

What will you do if they start naming bridges and tunnels and airports after George W Bush?
FYI, none of this is 'new' or particularly unique to any political party...

Kind of like all the stuff named after Senator Robert (KKK) Byrd (Democrat)...who is still alive and wasting air...for some reason this 'King of Pork' keeps getting reelected.

He has over 30 things named after him...here's a short list of some of them:

Robert C. Byrd Drive, from Beckley to Sophia (Byrd's hometown)

Robert C. Byrd National Technology Transfer Center at Wheeling Jesuit University

Robert C. Byrd Highway

Reply:I'm not sure how to avoid this, but thanks for question.

Hopefully there will be enough public outcry to keep that from happening.
Reply:If they name a bridge after him, trolls can live underneath it forever.
Reply:Ummm........Go about my life like a normal person. You should try it some time.
Reply:LOL We have an airport named Bush Field in our area. It's been a failure too.
Reply:I'll celebrate ! Thanks for the idea. I'll email my congressman asking for Bush Airport, and hope security there does not use the Clinton imposed rules that helped the 9/11 terrorists hijack those planes.
Reply:Give an example of naming something after a dubious Republican leader. Wait, I'll cut to the chase because I bet your going to say Ronald Reagan. RR was arguably the most popular president since JFK and enjoyed a landslide re-election. Maybe that meant that not only Republicans thought he was a great leader. The economy went from stagnant and cruddy with record inflation under Carter to one of the strongest ever under Reagan. Government revenue climbed to new heights even though RR enacted the largest tax cut in history, putting more money in everyones pockets. Government defecits under Reagan were largely due to a Democratic Congress not holding true to their promise of controlling spending. Reagan led the US to vistory over the USSR, who was the greatest threat to the US's way of life, in a Cold War that had lasted since the 50's(maybe even earlier, but I'm too lazy to look it up right now).

Oh, and the Dems dont do exactly what you are talking about? Speaking of Carter the Navy named a Nuclear Attack Sub after him. Face it, he was one of the worst Presidents in a long time, but still he is memorialized prior to his death.

New strategy. Read some history, don't rely on what others who think exactly like you talk about. James Buchanan, the 5th President, was a Democrat. I know for a fact their are many schools named after him. Franklin Pierce ranks 3rd on the list of worsts, a Democrat.
Reply:go drink some more kool aid, idiot!!!!
Reply:Maybe you can move to another country.
Reply:you should act rationally. i drive on streets named clinton and kennedy all the time. should i boycott the streets because of name association?
Reply:Will the 'names' be 'mis-spelled' in his honor?
Reply:Do you have ANY sense of history? What republicans are you talking about? I'm aware of Reagan International, but do you have any clue what he brought to the world? I'm not aware of anything major named after Bush1, Ford, or Nixon. I'm also unaware of anything named after Clinton, Johnson, or Carter. I'm sure there are local streets and honors given in their home states and hometowns, but this is not what you are griping about. You would take Reagan International and use that one naming as a generralization this broad? The man defeated Communism and brought down the iron curtain! Are you old enough to remember the sledge hammers being taken against the Berlin wall where previously, those who tried to cross were shot on sight? Get a sense of history and of perspective. One airpost hardly qualifies your hysteria.
Reply:Sorry, you are too late! It's already been done! ha ha

Have they named a bridge after T. Kennedy yet?
Reply:Move to France
Reply:Actually those are great ideas! I have a few other suggestions...

"The George W Bush Iraqi Children's Orphanage"

"The George W Bush Unemployment Line"

"The George W Bush Hospital for Iraqi Veterans" (closed- lack of funds)

"The George W Bush Statue, Signifying When He Let Exxon NET Almost $40 BILLION of Our Dollars"

"The George W Bush Library, Complete with 'Where's Waldo' and "My Pet Goat' Books"
Reply:Usually things like this are voted in at city hall/council meetings. These are generally open to the public and citizens do have the right to speak out against something they don't want, so you can always lodge a protest there.

I don't think it's that big of a deal, though. History will remember him and what he has or hasn't done - that's much more of a legacy than having some rest stop named after you.

How long can you go without naming a newborn child?

They won't let you leave the hospital without a name.

How long can you go without naming a newborn child?
Actually, it really depends on the hospital the mother gives birth in.

My neighbor when 1 week without naming her child and they released the child without a name.

I'm sure that you will be able to pick one once you see the baby.It is easier to actually see the being you are naming in order to put a name to the face.
Reply:When I had my son we couldn't agree on a name. The day before we were scheduled to leave the hospital they told me I had to name him. We joked about him being John Doe for three days (I had a c-section) so we named him John! I was able to go three days because of the c-section, but with a natural birth, you leave the hospital the next day, so you would only have 24 hours.
Reply:I think it depends on the hospital, but where I delivered my baby, we had to have a name before leaving the hospital. They prepare the birth certificate for you and deal with social security, so they won't let you leave before you give them the info they need to finish with your paperwork.
Reply:depends on the state. in california you can i believe go a week, but i'm not sure. contact the hospital you'll be delivering at and ask them. or possibly the SSA
Reply:yea you must have there name ready b4 you leave...dont worry it took me untill i was actually laying in the bed in labor to finally make my decision
Reply:You have to have one before you are allowed to take your child out of the hospital
Reply:Well you got 9 months to think about it.

What is involved in having a naming ceremony for a baby?

i had one of these days for my baby and it was the most wonderful experience ever! it involves making a commitment to the baby and you may have mentors instead of god parents.

in my ceremony i had

a good friend reading a poem

lighting of a candle

statement of comitment from me and my partner

statement of commitment from mentors

the mentors read a poem and a speach

we cut a cake

the person who led the ceremony said a celtic poem

we listened to a song personal for baby(we chose james blunt-your beautiful)

it is a very personal ceremony and i will recomend this for anyone

What is involved in having a naming ceremony for a baby?
I have performed these, they are equivalent to a Christian Christening, but are more spiritual than religious, although often the Blessings of God %26amp; Goddess is called upon, or for the spiritual people the Blessings of the Archangels.

Also equivelant to the godparents are also named, those that promise to look after the spiritual wellbeing etc should anything happen to the parents.
Reply:I've never heard of a naming ceremony. Sounds like a waste of time and money.
Reply:Under what culture is this? I'm interested myself!
Reply:Depends. Will the ceremony by Native American? Usually those are pretty strict on things that you do.

How do I go about naming a street?

It depends. If it is a private driveway (even if it is shared), you can usually get it (re)named fairly easily. Different entities name streets for different places. It may be your city or county planning department. It may be the 911 department, etc. You should be able to call your court house or city hall and they can tell you who to contact.

How do I go about naming a street?
My old boss got to name streets for a track of homes build on the land he sold to the developer. They simply used the family names, but put them all in Spanish. Via Gilberto, Avenida Marisol, Via Maria Terese, Avenida Pablo. Or you can use your last name. Remember the street will have that name forever. Enjoy leaving your mark on the world.
