What are the characteristics of naming a polyatomic ion?

Naming a polyatomic ion is easy, just keep the name and don't change the ending to ide. If you name something with a polyatomic ion it's going to be an ionic compound, so it could have a transition metal or regular metal and those naming rules still apply. So FeSO4 would be Iron (II) sulfate and you would still have to put the roman numerals.
