I'm thinking about naming my baby Abigail is that to old school?

None of my friends like it at all. I also like Sydney as well

What do you think?

I'm thinking about naming my baby Abigail is that to old school?
Abigail is a very pretty name and is pretty popular. Two of my friends have daughters named Abigail.

I like Sydney also.
Reply:I love Abigail! Well, duh! I should! It's My name! I go by Abby or Abs, and I'm 11, so it's not all that old school. I know a few littler kids with the name, and only one in my grade, so it's not too popular while not too trendy. It's calssic. I always thought of Sydney as too tom-boyish. Also, as a young child they might pronounce it Cindy, and that could cause a big mismatch. I have a cousin named Sydney, but I call her Syd, since I still can't pronounce Sydney right. If you go with Abigail, I think the nickname Abby is best. Or Abs, since Gail is too old fashoined, and Gabby will make people think her name is Gabriella. My name is Abigail Paige, but i also know and Abigail Grace which I think is really pretty. Good luck!
Reply:i love the name abigail, esp Abbie.

I don't like sydney that much though.
Reply:how old are you? Abigail is a very cute name and quite popular.you can call her Abby or Gail.good luck.
Reply:I love it... And it has so many different nicknames like Abby/Abi/Aby/Abyie or Gail or Agie.. etc

i prefer abigail to sydney. In my life i have met about 7 Abi and only 2 of them werw Abigails so its quite uncommen
Reply:I love that name and I like Sydney as well. You need to name her what you want. Dont name her something to please others. Congrats
Reply:I like the name Elizabeth...but I like mine too--Rosalinda--which means "beautiful rose" in Spanish. She could always be nicknamed Lizzie or Lizeth for Elizabeth or Rosey or Rose for Rosalinda.
Reply:I am biased here, my youngest is Abigail and I love it. ,It is cute and sweet. Plus it just suits her with her blond little pig tails.
Reply:I like it it's classic
Reply:I'm not a big fan, but my cousin named her first daughter that. There is always going to be some one in your life that won't like the name you choose.
Reply:that was my old dogs name. i love sydney i think it may be the new future katie
Reply:I love it, I'm biased in favour of traditional names I have to admit, but Abigail has an especially nice strong sound and ring to it.

It therefore follows on that I really don't like Sydney, sorry, to me it still sounds much too unfeminine for a girl especially with its diminutive of 'Sid'!

I find it interesting though that with the current popularity of Sydney as a name people seem to have forgotten the older female name Sidonie which has gone completely out of fashion, but has a much more feminine spelling and sound.

It was the female version of the male Latin name Sidonius which just meant 鈥榝rom Sidon鈥?
Reply:Check out the SSA list of the most popular names for babies born in 2006. Abigail is a great name and thousands of other parents agree with you.
Reply:I love Abigail...she could be abby when she's younger and gail when she is older - love the name...I like Sydney as well.
Reply:Well I am 13 and my middle name is Abigail and some of my friends call me Abby. I think that Abigail is a nice name (but anything is compared to my first name, Harriet. lol.). I also think Sydney is good. I think you should go with Sydney because it is more unusual (in a good way). hope this helps! =)
Reply:I think Abigail is a precious name. I love it!

You could go with Sydney Abigail that would be adorable.
Reply:I don't like the name at all. Sydney is nice. I also like Sidonie, the french version.
Reply:I like Sydney better. Abigail....ehh...its okay.
Reply:I like it. It's a pretty name with character.
Reply:I think it's quite pretty and you could actually combine the two and name her Abigail Sydney or Sydney Abigail...they both would be awesome!
Reply:Are you kidding? The old school names are back in a big way. Abigail is a perenial favorite! Sydney is one of those old names that is now a unisex name so i would tend to stay away from that to avoid the question "Is sydney a boy or a girl?". But it is cute none the less.

Best of luck.
Reply:I think Abigail is old-fashioned, but it's become popular again. I wouldn't use it, not because it's too old, but because it was very common in my sister's age group (early 90's).

I'm not a huge fan of Sydney, but I like it more than Abigail.

Old school is cool. Don't listen to what other people have to say about this matter unless it's positive. It's your baby, you name him. [:
