When you think about naming your children?

Do you go for something that is truly meaningful or something that is unique and nobody else has?

If you go for the unique/uncommon name I would like to know your reason for doing so, if you don't mind?

When you think about naming your children?
I went for meaningful. When I was 14 my Uncle Johnny (who was more like a brother to me) died. So I decided that I was going to name my son after him.
Reply:I went through this notion as well, and everything that I came up with that wasn't "common"... I just didn't feel I loved in my bones... but the reason that I DID want to do a "unique" name for that purpose souly.

I almost went as far as naming my daughter Nathaline. (Nathalie / Madaline) Or Matilie... and then I just thought... hmm... I don't think so.

Plus I didn't want her to be called Mat/t, or some boy name turn girl.

And I ended up naming her Natalie, because I like the fact that you can't really tear apart that name. It just seems as though children are just getting so much more cruel, these days, so I didn't want to subject her to being made fun of, because I went out on a whim, to name her something "unique" or different. The woman who was in the hospital with me, named her SON "Unique Peri Jones" I'll give you one guess what the "Peri" stands for... He was born in August.

(Peridot is the birthstone of Aug.)

GO FIGURE RIGHT ?

So... if you're not looking for EXTREME unique, you should be fine, and proud that your child will have a name unlike any others...

but if you choose a common name, there's nothing wrong with that either. Everyone has their own identity regardless. Look at all the names that hollywood and the music industry has...

Good luck !
Reply:My kids names are a combo of unique, common and meaningful. My son is Logan Orion. Logan for the Wolverine in the comics (my hubby's idea and I liked the name) and the name is quite common. Wolverine is a kind of warrior so we continued with the constellation of stars of Orion which is also a warrior.

My daughter is Alora Grace. Alora is the princess in the movie "Willow" and I loved the name ever since I saw the movie. It is quite uncommon so we went more common with Grace but wanted to go with the princess theme as well so we went with the middle name Grace after Princess Grace Kelly.
Reply:I would go for a name that has a good meaning to it, make sure the initials don't spell out anything bad, and something that they and everyone else can spell:)

I would tend to go to the more unique names or old-fashoned names--a name that every kid in their class doesn't have. But not something so unique that no one can understand it:)
Reply:my husband and i went thru SO many choices. either i liked it and he didnt or he liked it and i didnt.... we decided on illidan for a boy. he picked the name and the reason he picked it is becuase (sigh** brace yourself) there is a character in a game he plays who is named illidan. he is the hardest person to kill in the game because apparently he is the best and the strongest. lol go figure. i thought it was so stupid at first but the name really grew on me. it is unique and now i really love it. we decided on his middle name as the babys middle name for a boy. for a girl the only rule i had was the middle name had to begin with an 'm' because for as many generations as i can think of, the women in my family on my mother's side all have middle names that begin with that letter. we decided on monet. also unique. we feel that our child deserves to have a name that is not like everyone elses because he/she will be that much more special
Reply:I go for cute, probably more common names. I make sure that people can say the name and spell it without a problem and ya know when you go to toys r us and they have those license plates for your bike with your name on it.....well i want my kids names to be on them! lol This way i know they are normal names!
Reply:I have already started thinking about names and I haven't even gotten pregnant yet. I only have a couple girls names though. Boys names are much harder to pick.

Arrhianna, Saffron, Maeb are the names I love for a girl.
Reply:No children...but I would be careful about giving someone a name, that was hard to spell, or pronounce, or that could easily be twisted into an embarrassing nickname.....
Reply:artesia..that was a name i saw of a condo. i think its really cute. and yea no one has it

it may be a bit of a mouthful though
