i dont want anything cheesy or too religious. thanks in advance!
Im having a baby naming service and need a poem as part of a gift for the guardians, does anyone know of any?
Is it a poem about a baby you want? How about these
Baby's Feet by Algernon Charles Swinburne
A baby's feet, like sea shells pink,
Might tempt, should heaven see meet
An angel's lips to kiss, we think,
A baby's feet.
Like rose-hued sea flowers toward the heat
They stretch and spread and wink
Their ten soft buds that part and meet.
No flower bells that expand and shrink
Gleam half so heavenly sweet,
As shine on life's untrodden brink
A baby's feet.
Ode on the Whole Duty of Parents by Frances Cornford
The spirits of children are remote and wise,
They must go free
Like fishes in the sea
Or starlings in the skies,
Whilst you remain
The shore where casually they come again.
But when there falls the stalking shade of fear,
You must be suddenly near,
You, the unstable, must become a tree
In whose unending heights of flowering green
Hangs every fruit that grows, with silver bells;
Where heart-distracting magic birds are seen
And all the things a fairy-story tells;
Though still you should possess
Roots that go deep in ordinary earth,
And strong consoling bark
To love and to caress.
Last, when at dark
Safe on the pillow lies an up-gazing head
And drinking holy eyes
Are fixed on you,
When, from behind them, questions come to birth
Insistently,
On all the things that you have ever said
Of suns and snakes and parallelograms and flies,
And whether these are true,
Then for a while you'll need to be no more
That sheltering shore
Or legendary tree in safety spread,
No, then you must put on
The robes of Solomon,
Or simply be
Sir Isaac Newton sitting on the bed.
Reply:A baby naming service? I thought you didn't want anything cheesey? Why bother? It's completely meaningless. For God's sake get the kid baptised (Christened) and do it a favour, and while you're about it, do the kid another favour and grow up.
Reply:What's a baby naming service? are letting other people name your baby? guardians of what? the baby? what?
Reply:Meaghan Elizabeth Moeller: a journey for us all
The promise of a new life
beams like the sun rising o'er the East--
Bright, vibrant, illuminating, warm.
The light you are destined to bring to this world
has already brightened all our lives--
as it is sure to spread to every corner of this land.
Yet, even as shadow recedes as noon approaches there
is always somewhere not warmed by the light--
how unfortunate these spaces would be if not lighted
by you--the warmest radiance of all.
And, as it is that we cannot but glimpse the brightness
of our solar friend without fear of blindness,
neither can we gaze into your brilliance to see
what so many tomorrows will bring.
But the promise of discovery makes every moment elapsed
an eternity of possibilities.
And though we cannot know what bright future
destiny holds for you,
we can all imagine, dream, ponder.
Yet, in the end you will choose on what celestial path
you wish to wander.
And, such as the stars arise from the collection
of matter to one venue,
So will your life be made from what you gather
from those around you.
Thus, though the path you choose will be your own,
the journey of your life will never be yours alone.
Reply:Behold my bundled waif
A yawning life ahead
Please set your palms O gently
Upon this newborn head
Gaze upon his future
See to it you are there
How blessed to have you always
Watch him climb the stair
Reply:May I serve my boss
When they ask my help
May I choose as a gift of God
What I expect as a goodwill
When I do a work
that I get a satisfaction
When I get happiness
Then I know some thing
Which I want to earn
That is actual worth
Money is money
There is nothing beyond it!
