All of the above in my opinion, but I would add another benefactor in there and that's lineage. If you look at families, especially in the royal family...the are all thesame.
Is the naming practice within British community influenced by historical, economical, and political factors?
It seems that lately it is influenced by the Celebrities we have. Personally, I think it was originally a combination of the three.
