Me and my husband are both Scandinavians and fair in features, but I'm in love with the name Ashanti. When I tried to tell some friends about it they said it wouldn't suit her (I'm having twin girls, one will be Dianna). One person even said if I was adopting the soon-to-be Ashanti.
I love African names, but I know there are people who will judge it because of where it comes from. What do you think?
Would naming my daughter this be too awkward?
You can name your daughter with whatever name you want. Its your daughter and not theirs. Honestly i love the name Ashanti. Go with what name you want. :) its your choice not others.
Reply:It's a swahili name %26amp; I think that they are going to be your children, so you %26amp; your husband name them what ever you want.
You'll find out exactly who your real friends are if you name one of your daughters Ashanti.
I for one agree with you, I think it's a beautiful name.
Only a suggestion, but perhaps you could use Dianna as a middle name %26amp; find an equally unique %26amp; beautiful african first name for your other daughter.
Good Luck. May your daughters bring light, love %26amp; happiness into your lives. X :-)
Reply:not sure if you have come across this website but you can type in a name and it will show many things in regards to the name like poll of people with the name how they like it or the common problems like mispronounce or misspell even section about if the name could be target for bullying and many other things and if name has meaning or origin it can also be found on the site well i just thought you should check it out since you are considering how others may judge the name you can read the polls and input by those who share the name or from those and have opinion on the name well good luck
Reply:Personally, I think a person's name has a great influence on their lives and this is a decision that shouldn't be taken lightly.
There are reference sites that "predict" a person's personality and future success based on statistics. You should be able to find them on Google. I can't say if it works or not but there seems to be something in it.
I like the name Ashanti but it is also the name of a very large gold mining company and someone might call her a gold-digger in the future???
Reply:The name Ashanti reminds me of the RnB singer, its pretty and if you like it then you should call your daughter it. Who are other people to say that the name won't suit her. However if you think that lots of people will judge and call her names because of it have Ashanti as a middle name. (Personally I would use the name).
Reply:Well personally i think that Ashanti is a lovely name, i think you should go with your own feelings don't let friends or family get in your way of naming your offspring!! It doesn't even sound African to me, i think its nice that now a days we can actually give such different names to our children, Gweneth Paltrow even has a baby girl named Apple, so if she can do it anyone can!!!
Reply:A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. If you like the name, then go with it. If people can name their kid, Apple, you can name your kid anything you like too. The name "Apple" came from a tree!
Reply:I have a white girlfriend named LaTasha and she puts up with all sorts of "oh, I did not expect you to look like that" comments. People always say they expected a different race. She told me she would never have picked that name herself.
Reply:Ashanti is a beautiful name. Don't listen to what friends say, as long as you and your husband are happy with the name, thats all that matters. It really is a lovely name.
Reply:Why don't you make it a middle name, then?
It's not YOU who will have to deal with the questions, after all--it's the child.
Names do matter. Choose wisely.
Reply:Personally, I like the name too, but it would be kind of too akward, maybe try something like Alicia? I think that's a cute name, that's just my opinion..
Reply:Many people make judgements on names alone.
So, if you don't mind that people will assume that your daughter is African American, then go ahead.
Reply:It's a beautiful name, and if you love it then go ahead with it. If you fear it's "too much" then choose it to be her middle name.
Reply:its your choice they are your children name them whatever you like there are so many names out there these days and ppl call there babys the weirdest things like apple pear peches etc so yeah your choice no 1 elses
good luck
Reply:you could name your kid whatever you want. dont worry cause people think its a black name. if you like it go for it. i think thats a good name!

Reply:Very nice name %26amp; Dainah goes well with it. You could also go for
Shayna %26amp; Dianna
Reply:i think you should stop caring what others think. you shouldn't have to seek the approval of others
Reply:That is a weird name for a white girl. I wouldn't do it.
Reply:Psht, just tell everyone that it's the name of an ancient Scandinavian cloud goddess... they won't even blink an eye.
Reply:If you like the name, go for it. Who cares?!
Reply:I love the name!
