I am thinking of naming my first child Cosette, is this a good idea?

I think it is a beautiful name. My wife thinks that everyone will associate her with Victor Hugo's Cosette, but I don't think it will be a big problem for her. The other potential problem is that if she goes to France, it might be kind of strange for her (like being named Cinderella).

Do you know anyone named Cosette? Why aren't there more people named Cosette?

I am thinking of naming my first child Cosette, is this a good idea?
I think its lovely. And to me, I LOVE the Les Miserables reference. Its all terribly romantic. Who cares if its related to Hugo. Shes a wonderful character! Innocent, hard done by, rescued, finds romance. Its lovely! And its great to give your child a name with such a classis literary meaning. I dont think it will be strange if she goes to France. People are named Cosette there and also she might be more accepted by them as a tourist if she has a french name. Encourage her to learn French and she will be set!

And personally, I get a kick out of the people that say "I dont know anybody named that!". Hello! Thats the point! Thats why you're not asking about Kayla or Ava or Madison! And that it sounds like corset? Not if you are pronouncing corset properly.

Go for it. Its beautiful
Reply:Cosette is a very pretty name.

The first thing I thought of is Victor Hugos' Les Miserables. But I am a fan of Les Miserables.

I dont know anyone named Cosette. I dont know why there arent more people named Cosette.

I wouldnt worry about the name being associated Victor Hugo or problems with the name if she goes to France.

If you both like this name, I say go for it!!! All in all, the name is very pretty.
Reply:It is so pretty! Go for it. I don't know anyone named that, so it must be fairly unique. It is so elegant and feminine. Good choice!
Reply:I agree, it reminds me of corset also.
Reply:I think it's beautiful! I like names that are original. You name you're child whatever YOU like. It doesn't matter what other people think. They can name their own!
Reply:Cosette is a really good idea, since it is unique and it really has substance (Victor Hugo's Cosette). I know someone named Cosette, and she is really loving her name! She even named her small business as "Cosette's." :D
Reply:i like the name cosette its pretty but i also like the names shavonne, avery, megan and danyella
Reply:Yes, that's a beautiful name! I don't know how many people would actually associate it with Victor Hugo.... I don't know anyone with the name, which is why I really love it!

Don't worry about France.... They don't care about us!

More people don't have unique names like Cosette because they're too bust re-using the same names over and over.... Originality is a good thing! Don't let anyone dissuade you from a name like this.

Also, someone suggested making the name Cosetta... don't do that! Leave it as is!
Reply:Cosette reminds me of Corset, something you do not want your child to be associated with. Personally, I hate the name. I know no person named Cosette. I know a hampster named Cosette though.
Reply:in Italy a person named Cosette means Little Thing.........is not very good....another name???
Reply:It's ok, I guess, but I think Collette is prettier.
Reply:Bonjour,

Yes I am french..and do not worry about the French's..so few will make the connection..unfortunately! And if they do, so what? she is a wonderful, beautiful and very smart kid in this story. So, vive Cosette and you just give my an excellent idea for my daughter's little girl to come in 7 months..I think she may like this name very much..I do.
Reply:Hey-Cosette was a character in Les Miserables, and it´s a pretty name.
Reply:It is a beautiful name. How many people will associate it with Victor Hugo? By the time she's a teen nobody will even know who Hugo is. And don't worry if she goes to France or not! Don't let a handful of people discourage you from naming your child(ren) whatever you want to name them. You are the one saying her name over and over again. It's a good name for a child as well as an adult. You might want to consider changing the end 'e' to 'a' to make your wife more apt to agree to the name. Good luck!
Reply:I absolutely absolutely LOVE that name. I think it's gorgeous. I have never met anyone with that name. Maybe people stay away from it for the same reason your wife brought up... regardless, I love it.
Reply:I think it's a pretty name, and the connection to Les Miserables is actually great- it's a good book! I know of a Cosette...
Reply:no dont name the kid cosette. name her Gravy. she will love you for life!
