How do you go about naming your child after someone with an old fashioned name?

No matter what the name..nick names can always attach themselves...if u feel obligated to name them after someone with an oldfashion name u can always update/ refresh it ..or choose it as the middle name :D

How do you go about naming your child after someone with an old fashioned name?
I thought it was fun to look up names that were way back in my family tree. There were some unusual names that were also pretty. That will also tie in your heritage. Many people look to the Bible for names, and you could read through some old books for ideas.
Reply:If you like the name, just go for it! If it's someone you know though, you should ask them first.
Reply:Well you can modern it up sort of - if the name is Lillian you could spell it Lily Anne. Or you could look at the old fashioned name and see if there is a nice nickname you could use for an everyday name, for instance Anastasia could be Staci, or Ana. If it is really not a name you love - use it as a middle name.
Reply:If you like the name...simply just do it. You will always find someone who likes the name....and someone who hates the name. Truly it's your child so only you can veto a name.

And don't let anyone tell you what to name your child. Every one in my family has hated all my kids names until they were actually born. I got to the point where I haven't told anyone this time what we plan on naming our daughter. (Reyna Grace) I love the name, it means Peaceful Queen....

At any rate...name your baby what you want...and screw every one else. Congrats!!!
Reply:I think its an awesome idea. Not a lot of people are using them now a days. I named my daughter Audrey Faye (Faye after g-ma). My son is Alden Joseph ( Alden after a deceased friend-Joseph after g-pa ). Both names are more like people in their 80's.
Reply:Choose the name from an internet site.

Good luck.
Reply:use it as a middle name
Reply:You write it on the birth certificate.
Reply:What name

Catherine, can be updated with Kaya, Caitlin, or nicknames like Cate, Katie, Kay, Kit, Kitty

Elizabeth, can be updated like, Eliza, Betty, Besty, Ella, Libby

Victoria, Tori

What the name
Reply:Just name them. Like Margaret (after my grandmother) and call her Maggie for short. Or use it as a middle name if I really don't like it (like Elsa).

Reply:We named our daughter Margarette after an Irish grandmother of mine. It is old and hard to spell, but it meant so much to me to honor her in such a profound way. I knew my daughter would have a horrible time trying to say let alone spell it in school, so we gave her the nickname "Marnie". It is sweet, and also Irish. Just make it their own while still honoring the older person.
Reply:Well, I figured this: My dad's name is Alex and my mom's middle name is Elaine. I want to call one of my kids Alexis Elaine _____ *last name*. If it is an old fashioned name, you could always make it a middle name. You wouldn't want your kids to be made fun of for their whole life. Consider what it will sound like on them when they:

--start kindergarden

--start middle school

--start high school

--have kids of their own

--when they are 60
