the no. which are written on IC contains LS in them why?
What is the significance of LS in IC naming?
Low-power Schottky, one of the many types of TTL (74xx series) logic. This was the less power-hungry but slower descendant of Schottky.
'LS is all but obsolete now, it has been replaced by HCT, a CMOS-based family that is compatible.
Links below list some of them...
Reply:The IC is one in the 7400 series, and the LS is for low power schottky. This means it used schottky transistors, faster than ordinary ones, and also had a lower power consumption than the earlier Shottky family, and TTL itself.
You could say that most of the bipolar transistor TTL logic families are superceded by HCMOS families which may operate at different voltages, have different thresholds and so noise immunity, and are faster and consume less power at least in some situations.
The link below has more detail.
