Why do you suppose Latin was chosen as the language for the scientific naming system?

most scientists at the time spoke Latin, so most scientific names come from Latin

today, we still keep those scientific names, therefore, most of them are Latin

Why do you suppose Latin was chosen as the language for the scientific naming system?
Latin was the language of the educated. All the scholars knew it, and they were the ones usually figured things out. As time passed on, a lot of other languages came to be from Latin.
Reply:Thank all those Medieval monks who translated from Arabic and Greek the ancient scientific texts of the time into Latin, the language of the educated and the Church.
Reply:Linnaeus could not have used his own language - who would have understood him? and at that time, there was no dominant European language - except for Latin.
