If our baby is a boy my husband and I are considering naming him Jude?

Lately my husband is having second thoughts because he thinks that the name might be to feminine. I have my heart set on it now. Do you think it sounds feminine?

If our baby is a boy my husband and I are considering naming him Jude?
I love the name Jude, like others have said it reminds me of the Beatles song which is one of my all time faves. As for sounding feminine, I don't think it is at all but of course you'll get those ignorant/stupid people that will insist on metioning that to you - ignore them, it's a lovely name and if your heart is set on it then you'll regret it if you name him something else.
Reply:I absolutely love the name Jude. I think it is traditional and common enough not to sound strange, but different enough that there won't be 5 other little boys in his class with the same name. (In 2007 it was the 297th most popular male name in the US.)

A nice alternative is Judah, with the nickname Jude. A very strong, masculine name. (I don't think either one sounds feminine at all!) Like Jude, it is a biblical name.

Another similar name is Julian - ranked 66th, it is more popular, but still not terribly common. (Julian strikes people as being somewhat feminine sometimes, but I don't see it as such.)

Hope that helps! Good luck with your baby!
Reply:It's a good name. It is not the least bit feminine although I suppose some girls named Judy have been called Jude for short but it's always been considered an unfeminine nickname. It is an entirely different name than Judas (Beebee). In the Bible Jude was a brother of Jesus. Jude was also apparently a nick name of John lennon's son Julian and the inspiration for the song Hey, Jude.
Reply:i like it for a boy. i think of a boy when i see it. There is an actor named Jude Law. I have a sister named Judith and we call her Judi, bet never Jude.

It reminds me of the song "Hey, Jude" by the Beatles, which was written to comfort John Lennon's son, Julian, when his parent's were getting divorced. Definitely a boy's name to me.
Reply:I personally never thought it to be feminine. Babyzone.com has it as both though, and for feminine it says it's a nickname for Judah. How they decided that Judah was feminine is beyond me. Anyway here is what it said about the male form:

Jude-Hebrew: Praised; a variant of Judah. The Beatles' smash hit "Hey Jude" was one of the first rock singles to break the standard running time, lasting over seven minutes—yet it still landed in the top spot on the charts in the UK and US.

Famous Namesakes: Actor Jude Law

Based on the 1990 US Census, Jude was ranked the number 1114 most popular Boys name in the US.

Jude ranked 909 in the top 1000 given names for births in the 1990's (January 1990-August 1999).
Reply:It reminds me of the Beatles song, Hey Jude. It's not my favorite, and i think i agree it's not the most masculine name. But if you love it thats what matters, though i think you and your husband should try to agree.
Reply:I love the name Jude, and although I can see it as a girls name as well, I think it would suit a boy better. Maybe its just because Im in love with the song, but I really love the name.
Reply:It makes me think of the Beatles song, and of course Jude Law (which does a LOT for the whole masculine part). Just give him a good masculine middle name. I think Jude Micheal would sound good myself.
Reply:It is a tad feminine but i absolutley adore the name too.

If you put it with a masculine middle name it'll be fine.

Its a great name though none the less :)

xxx
Reply:It is slightly feminine, but I do not think it will be a problem. If he really doesn't like it, you can consider variations like Judah or Judd.
Reply:No. It reminds me of Jude Law - a hottie. But....I'd like the name for a girl too, but have never heard it for a girl. Jude is cool!
Reply:It was a name that was considered when my son was born also. At the very last minute we changed it to Jeffrey.

I suppose Jude could be considered fem.
Reply:Jude is totally masculine. "Hey Jude" :)
Reply:I like it- It reminds me of that Thomas Hardy novel- Jude the Obscure- I loved that book- sad book but very good
Reply:I think it's beautiful...

Jude Issiah

Jude Thomas

Jude David

Or Gabriel Jude... And call him Jude.
Reply:I don't think it sounds feminine but since the movie "Across the Universe" came out the name Jude always reminds me of the Beatles...not that thats a bad thing!
Reply:Very Lennon of you. LOVE IT.

It is a little Feminine, but Jude Law isn'r feminine at all.
Reply:Not at all.

Jude Law does not hurt its image, either, as far as being masculine.
Reply:I love the name Jude for a boy! I don't think its feminine at all. Good luck! :o)
Reply:I don't trhink it's too feminine at all...but I still hate it! It is too tough, and sounds mean!
Reply:Jude is a fantastic name.
Reply:I don't think its feminine at all. I actually like it a lot.
Reply:It is a little feminine, but not to much
