Naming compounds through the use of the Stock system?

Hi there,

I'm wondering how to name compounds using the stock system. What exactly is it and how can the concept be applied to naming various compounds, such as LiBr. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Naming compounds through the use of the Stock system?
lithium bromide

With a metal and a nonmetal compound, use the metals whole name, and the nonmetals name with an ide ending.
Reply:Name the cation first

If the cation can have two or more oxidation numbers, place the oxidation number in Roman Numerals like so-

Copper(II) chloride.

LiBr = Lithium bromide; not Lithium(I) bromide because Li cation has only one oxidation state.
